The Key Laboratory on Resources Chemicals and Materials of Ministry of Education (RCM) is founded on basis of the Institute of Industrial Chemistry and Energy Technology at Shenyang University of Chemical Technology. Focusing on the strategic needs in building a recycling and low-carbon society, RCM is devoted to high-efficiency and value-added comprehensive utilization of various natural and secondary resources, especially the characteristic mineral and energy resources in Liaoning Province, for productions of chemicals, materials as well as energy through cutting-edge innovations on frontier science and advanced technology in the areas of chemicals, materials, energy and their engineering developments.
Prof. Guangwen Xu is now the laboratory director, and Prof. Huiming Cheng, who is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the academic advisory board director. Currently, the laboratory has more than 60 research staff including several nationally and internationally renowned scholars such as those titled the Chief Scientist of 973 and National Distinguished Expert. RCM provides good conditions for carrying out fundamental research and engineering development through having more than 5000 m2 in space for laboratories and offices, tens of experimental facilities ranging from laboratory tests to pilot verification, and sufficiently good instrumental devices for analysis and characterization.
RCM has been honored to be a National University Huang Danian Type Faculty Team in 2018 and awarded with a project of the Discipline-Innovation Talents Introduction Program of Higher Education Institutions (“111” project) in 2020. The laboratory has also a few provincial innovation platforms, which include the Institute of Industrial Chemistry and Energy Technology of Liaoning Higher-education Institutions,Liaoning Innovation Team on Hierarchical Conversion and Cascaded Utilization of Carbon Resources, and Liaoning Engineering Research Center on Hierarchical Conversion of Carbon Resources.
Currently, the laboratory is deeply engaged in fundamental researches and technical developments on efficient processing and high-value utilization of characteristic mineral resources, which include but are not limited to clean conversion and low-carbon utilization of carbonaceous fuels and waste, large-scale production of functional powders and alloy materials, creation of bio-functional materials, green chemistry of fine chemicals, catalysis in carbon resources conversion, and process engineering science and technology. RCM is committed to fundamental creation, industrial innovation, engineering development and commercial deployment to promote the revolutionary progress on sciences and technologies in the area of resources chemicals and materials.
